Robert E Stevenson, resident at 49 Bankside in the 1930s, took his film directing skills to Hollywood after the war where his wife Anna Lee also began a successful career as a film actor. In 1964 Robert directed Walt Disney’s most successful film to date Mary Poppins. Set in Edwardian London, this is the tale of a magical nanny who brought love and joy to 17 Cherry Tree Lane, the home of the Banks’ family. A re-make of Mary Poppins is due for release in late autumn 2018 (with a cameo appearance of Julie Andrews, the original Mary Poppins).
