On the night the Albion Flour Mill burnt down (March 3rd 1791), large numbers of millers were seen dancing for joy on Blackfriars Bridge. The Star newspaper reported that millers within 30 or 40 miles of London have been in a state of intoxication since Wednesday last. Though the Mill’s owner Samuel Wyat and designer John Rennie believed the fire started accidently, a popular song of the day goes:
And now the folks begin to chat,
How the owners did this and that,
But very few did sorrow show,
That the Albion Mills were burnt so low
